Details of the Scam
We recently learned about a phone scam targeting retired members.
A client received a call from someone claiming to be a TTC Pension Plan employee, stating that a substantial amount was being held from their pension payments. The caller requested a VISA or bank card to facilitate accessing the funds.
The goal of these calls is to deceive clients into revealing personal information for fraudulent purposes. The caller might employ tactics like threatening to close your pension or demanding your account information to create a sense of urgency.
TTC Pension Plan will not ask you to update direct deposit information over the phone, especially not with a VISA.
