Position Summary

We are seeking an intermediate Associate with primarily public market experience to join the
Investment team! If you have a solid background and understanding in public markets and
working knowledge of portfolio management together with thorough due diligence, we want to
hear from you!

This role will cover primarily public markets, with future growth opportunities in private markets.
You will be responsible for assisting the investment team on investment recommendation
activities, manager on-boarding and continuous monitoring responsibilities. You will be involved in the investment lifecycle from idea generation through to execution and total portfolio
construction.

What will I do?

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Actively involved in the oversight of the Plan’s public markets (equities, fixed income, and hedge funds/absolute return).
  • Responsible for researching new asset (and sub-asset classes) classes, strategies and investment managers.
  • Work with the Portfolio Manager to present the analysis and recommendation to the Investment Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare attributions and analyses of investment performance to support the assessment of
    investment strategies and managers.
  • Co-ordinate review meetings with managers and prepare quarterly evaluations of their strategies and performance.
  • Lead the documentation and organization of call, visit and meeting recaps and reporting.
  • Assist in the negotiation of contracts and co-ordination of legal and tax reviews with outside counsel.
  • Support the monitoring and risk management of the Plan.
  • Prepare and present periodic reports, portfolio reviews and other ad hoc requests to the investment team, relevant investment committees, Board of Directors and various Committees.
  • Maintain a network with colleagues within the institutional investment community and among the investment manager community.
  • Assist in advancing TTC Pension Plan’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, by integrating ESG considerations into the investment and monitoring process.
  • Stay abreast of capital markets conditions, pro-actively identify and research new strategic initiatives and tactical investment opportunities globally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What will help me be successful?

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in academic program, such as Finance, Accounting, or a related field or equivalent direct work experience.
  • Completion of CFA Level I or CAIA, or an equivalent related designation is an asset.
  • 3+ years of working experience as a research analyst, investment analyst, associate, in the pension, consulting, or asset management industries, with a focus on public market investing.
  • Experience underwriting and investing in public markets investments.
  • Qualitative and quantitative analytical and financial modeling skills, to produce and communicate on performance indicators, findings and trends.
  • Proven experience and understanding in performance evaluation reporting, measurement and methodologies, portfolio reporting and risk characteristics.
  • Knowledgeable in portfolio management, due diligence, capital markets, investment and accounting
  • Proficiency and experience with investment analytics and risk software packages (e.g. Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, Axioma, BarraOne, etc.), and the utilization of data automation/API tools.
  • Proficiency with financial analysis software, Microsoft Suites (i.e. Excel, Word), PowerPoint, Teams,
  • VBA, Python, SQL and Tableau, or similar office tools.
  • Availability and readiness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
